Dollar Tree Hacks, 29 Brilliant Baskets Ideas
I was challenged to turn Dollar Tree bins into something useful! Here are 29 brilliant hacks I created to organize my home, build furniture, and create outdoor decor.

Quick Answer: What can I do with Dollar Tree baskets?
Don’t just use them for clutter! I love repurposing them into high-end decor. Here are my top 3 favorites:
- DIY Industrial Table: I glue two wire trash cans together and top them with a pizza pan.
- Wall Storage: I hang wire baskets on Command Hooks to create “floating shelves” in small bathrooms.
- Custom Shelving: I use pool noodles as spacers between plastic crates to build custom storage towers.

Do you love [Dollar Tree Hacks]? I was given the challenge of coming up with different ways to upcycle, repurpose, and use dollar store bins and baskets.
Whether you are looking for organization hacks or just fun ways to use dollar store bins, I’ve taken a few simple items and created hacks to use in your home. From organizing my bathroom to creating outdoor games, here are 29 ideas that will get you running to your local Dollar Tree stores.
Wall Storage Solutions
I often ask myself: How can I organize a room with no floor space? The answer is usually the walls!
Bathroom Wall Storage

My bathroom had no storage.
- How I did it: I cleaned the wall and applied 2 Command Hooks per basket (following the package instructions). Then I simply hung the wire baskets on the hooks!
- Why it works: You can adjust the basket size for what you want to store, like towels or toiletries.
- For more ideas like this, check out my [Command Hook Hacks].
Milk Crate Wall Storage

You can also use the small Dollar Tree plastic crates if you like that look better. The steps are exactly the same as above!

Trash Can “Drop Zone”

I mounted Dollar Tree trash cans to the wall using hooks (or screws). These baskets are bigger and perfect for bulky items.
- How I use them: I put this by each person’s jacket for items on the go.
- See the full setup in [Winter Gear Storage]
- See more ways to use them in my post [Super Easy Dollar Tree DIY Organization]
Pro Tip: Use them in your entryway as I did for items on the go, and you could also use them in a kid’s room, or in a classroom.
Laundry Room Baskets

I screwed larger dollar store baskets into the wall to create storage in my laundry room. They work great as mini laundry baskets for sorting.
- See my [Small Laundry Room Hacks].
Cabinet Door Storage

I added a dollar store basket to Command Hooks on the inside of my cabinet door for extra storage.
DIY Furniture & Shelving
Yes, you can build furniture out of these baskets!
Pool Noodle Storage Shelves

I bought plastic baskets from Dollar Tree and turned them into a custom shelf.
- Step 1: Glue 3 of the same sized basket together vertically. (I used hot glue to set it, then E6000 for a secure hold).
- Step 2: Cut strips of pool noodle to fit between the baskets. Hot glue them into the corners.
- Why do this? The pool noodle acts as a spacer and helps the baskets stand up straight!
- Step 3: Cut a pool noodle in half lengthwise and glue the flat side to the bottom of the shelf for feet.
Guest Room Coffee Station

I created another set of crate shelves using the pool noodle method, but I added cardstock over the holes so things wouldn’t fall through. I created a little tabletop to hold a coffee station for my guest room.
- See my [Plastic Crate Shelves].
Side Table: Hourglass Style

I found wire baskets at Walmart for $2 (you can also use Dollar Tree wire trash cans).
- Step 1: Take 2 wire trash cans and glue them bottom-to-bottom using E6000.
- Step 2: Place a dollar store plate (or pizza pan) on top.Result: A chic industrial side table!
Side Table: Storage Style

- Step 1: Flip one trash can upside down and put E6000 on the bottom.
- Step 2: Place the second trash can right-side up on top of the first one.
- Step 3: Rest a pizza pan on top as a removable lid.Result: A table that you can fill with blankets or remotes!
DIY Light Fixture

I found a wire basket on clearance that had a hole in the bottom.
- How I did it: I bought a light socket kit and threaded it through the hole in the basket. I hung it up, and now it’s a stylish cage light for my workspace.
Kitchen & Drawer Organization
Drawer Organization Bathroom:

I measured my drawers and bought baskets to fit inside. I mix and matched them to fit my items perfectly.
Drawer Organization Kitchen:

I used the same method to organize my kitchen utensils.
- See my [Organize Kitchen Drawers] post.
Tea & Drink Mixes

I use a variety of bins in my kitchen to hold tea boxes and individual drink packets so they aren’t scattered in the pantry.
Water Bottle Storage

I use the plastic Book Bins for water bottle storage. They hold the bottles horizontally so they don’t fall over!
DIY Coffee Bar

I glued together small wooden bins from “Crafter’s Corner” to a wooden plank. This created a wall-mounted coffee bar organizer.
- See my [Dollar Tree Coffee Bar] post.
The Lazy Susan

Why pay for a turntable?
- Step 1: Place marbles in a round cake pan.
- Step 2: Place a second cake pan on top (the marbles allow it to spin!).
- Step 3: Glue a baking sheet to the top pan.
- Step 4: Bent cooling racks (or glue wire bins) to the top for storage.
- See the video in my [Dollar Tree Lazy Susan] post.
Creative Small Space Hacks
Gift Baskets

Another dollar store hack is to turn a cheap basket into a beautiful gift basket.
- Step 1: Hot glue ribbon around the outside of a dollar store bin.
- Step 2: Take a pillowcase and turn it inside out. Tuck it into the basket and roll the top over the rim to cover the plastic.
- Step 3: Fill it with items! In my example, I added books, water, and snacks for a “Reading Gift Basket.”
Tomato Cage Planters

I placed flower baskets onto a tomato cage. I added a few dollar store bowls to the bottom rings to stop items from falling through.
- See my [Dollar Tree Planters] post.
Tote Carrier

I tied small wire pen holders to a towel rack to create a customized tote carrier/organizer.
Over-the-Door Storage

I took the small wooden bins from Crafter’s Corner and added them to an over-the-door hanging rack to create additional storage.
Hanging Closet Storage

I used Shower Curtain Rings to attach several wire baskets together vertically. I hung them in my closet for extra storage.
- See my [Dollar Tree Organization Hacks].
Sliding Drawer System

My bathroom had no drawers, so I used Dish Racks and dollar store bins to create my own stacking drawer system. The bins slide right onto the dish rack rails!

Outdoor & Seasonal Hacks
Solar Chandelier

I flipped over a Dollar Tree flower basket and turned it into a solar chandelier by adding solar lights to the rim.
- See the [Solar Chandelier] tutorial.
Utensil Windchime

I used a flower basket as the base to make a windchime using old utensils.
- See [Dollar Tree DIY Wind Chimes].
Frisbee Golf

I bought tomato cages and put Dollar Tree laundry baskets in the top rings. Give the kids some frisbees and they can play frisbee golf!
Water Toss Game

I used dollar store buckets to create a water toss game in the backyard.See [DIY Outdoor Games].
Halloween Skeleton Cage

I zip-tied two laundry baskets together to make a cage and put a skeleton inside.
- See [Halloween Yard Decorations].
Hanging Skeletons

I used Dollar Tree trash cans to create hanging cages for skeletons to decorate the yard.
Seasonal Decor
DIY Indoor/Outdoor Fire Bowl

I created a high-end looking fire bowl using a wire mesh wastebasket as the base!
- The Hack: I filled the wire bin with rocks (to weigh it down and look decorative) and placed a gel fuel can in the center. It creates a cozy fire feature that is safe for the patio or even a table centerpiece.
- See the full tutorial in my [Simple Indoor Outdoor Fire Bowl] post.
