Instructions for Nutella pop tarts

Start by greasing a pizza pan. Next, you’ll want to place one of the pie crusts on top of the pizza pan.

Make sure to follow the package instructions and let the pizza crust warm up before rolling it out. I have tried to roll the crusts out too soon and it results in tears in the dough. If this happens to you, simply press the tear back together.

Spread Nutella on top of the pie crust or on top of each pastry if making your own.

The amount you choose can be as little as a couple of tablespoons of Nutella or more, and it depends on the portions you’ll be serving.

Place the second pie crust on top of the Nutella.

Place the second pie crust on top of the Nutella and the first pizza crust.

Use a fork to press the 2 pie crusts together (you could use a toothpick if you’d like). This will create a seal around the outside so the chocolate doesn’t leak out while cooking. It also helps keep the pop tarts together later.

If desired, you could spread an egg wash on the top piece of dough for browning.

Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.

These are quick, easy, and my whole family loves them. We like to have them as a treat on weekend mornings, and they’re a quick and easy holiday treat as well.

Is Nutella Good or Bad for You?

Nutella has a lot of sugar, and it’s high in fat. It is best to eat it as an occasional treat.

What does Nutella taste like?

It tastes mostly like chocolate. It does have hazelnuts in it, so you can taste a small amount of that as well.

Is Nutella worse than chocolate?

Nutella is very high in sugar. That means it contains more sugar than milk, chocolate, or hazelnuts.

Is there milk in Nutella?

Yes. Milk has been turned into powdered milk and then is in Nutella.

Nutella Pop Tart Tips

  • You can also roll the pie crust into a square or rectangular shape on a lightly floured surface. This shape would allow you to use a baking sheet that can be lined with parchment paper to help with cleanup.  Then after cooking cut your pieces into rectangles.
  • If you would like, before cooking, you can cut your pie crust into rectangles.  Next using one tablespoon at a time add your filling to the center of each rectangle.  Use a pastry brush to brush egg wash around the edges of the rectangle.  Next, add a rectangle-shaped pie crust on top and use a fork to press and seal the edges.
  • With this homemade pop tarts recipe, you are not limited to using a jar of Nutella, you can also use: Strawberry, Raspberry or any other fruit filling you would like.
  • Before cooking, you can whisk in a small bowl of eggs to be used as an egg wash on top of each pie crust pastry before baking.  This will help give a nice toasted brown top.
  • Leave them plain or combine powdered sugar, a little vanilla extract, and some water to create a glaze to put over the tops. Or leave it plain without glaze and spread some butter over the entire surface!
  • You can also create your own pie crust from scratch.  A little flour, salt, and water with butter will give you a nice flaky pastry.  You can make the dough ahead of time, wrap it in plastic wrap, and put it in the refrigerator till you are ready to use. Just remember to pull it out ahead of time so that it can warm up some before using it.

Did you know Nutella has 4% of your fiber and 6% of your potassium needs, 15 millograms of sodium, 2 grams of protein, no trans fat, only a small amount of calcium,
