Have you seen an artificial kissing ball in the store? They can range from $20-100! I wanted one so badly, but not for some of those prices. Not all of them are made with fresh greens either. What is a girls to do? DIY it of course with just a few supplies from the dollar store!

Here is a picture of one I found online at Amazon for $30 – this was one of the less expensive ones I found.

DIY Kissing Ball Step-By-Step Instructions

I bought 2 bunches of yellow daisies at Walmart and lucky me – they were on clearance for $1.50 each!  I pulled the flower tops of the stems, and for this project, I needed about 20 flower heads.

I bought a 3 pack of Styrofoam balls from Dollar Tree so the foam ball could be the center of my kissing ball.  Each ball was 2.4 inches.

I cut a piece of twine, added a knot to the bottom of it to make a loop, and I hot glued the knot to the top of the ball.

I added some hot glue to the flower base…

and I stuck the little part of the stem into the Styrofoam ball starting at the top.

I continued doing this around in a circle adding more flowers until I made it to the bottom of the ball and the whole ball was covered.

When it was done it looked like this.  I am so excited at how it turned out!

You can hang it inside or out.

Now you can make it any desired length short or use a longer piece of ribbon, as it depends on where you’ll be hanging it. I hung mine outside, you can hang them on your front porch, or make a kissing ball ornament for everyone’s Christmas trees.

Here are some more DIY Kissing Ball options

    1. Thank you Elise, and you are correct that certain flowers can fade in the sun. I took mine outside for pictures but they are actually hanging in my home like mistletoe 🙂

  3. Where have I been? I have never heard of a kissing ball, they look so gorgeous. At first, I thought they were real flowers but I guess they are artificial. Yours looks every bit as lovely as the $30 ones.
We will feature the kissing balls on the next Pit Stop. Nice job.
