How To Make A Mantel Garland
How do you make a mantel garland? I was at my friend Mary’s beautiful home (Life At Bella Terra), and I was so excited to decorate your mantel with just 2 items!

Mary has a beautiful historic home in Phoenix, AZ. She has renovated this amazing and beautiful 2 acre property. She has several fireplaces and one of our projects was to decorate one of her mantels in her home. This mantel was the one I decorated and it is in her library.

I told her I was going to decorate it with coffee filters and a strand of lights. I don’t think they really believed me, but I really meant it. I joked and called it my MacGyver mantel garland. This is a standing joke because Mary once said I could make a coffee table out of a car engine. I told her since my dad owns a body shop, I probably really could do that and told her how.
I started by laying a strand of lights across the mantel.
If you’re worried about the strand of lights staying on, you can see my post here on how I do it.
I pressed in the center of the coffee filter, and twisted the bottom like in the picture. I placed the coffee filter in between the wiring. I continued doing this all the way across the mantel and down the sides. On top I filled in extra filters around to fill in the space.
Andrea from Design Morsels helped me with the sides (thanks Andrea).
Here’s the whole project! It only took 1 package of coffee filters, one strand of lights, took me approximately 45 minutes, and cost $3.
What I love about this project is that it can be left up all winter long.
While I was decorating my mantel, other bloggers were decorating other mantels in Mary’s home. Barbara from Mantel & Table created this beautiful mantel in Mary’s art studio.
Chloe from Celebrate and Decorate created these 2 mantels. The first one was in Mary’s living room, and the 2nd one was on Mary’s back patio.
It was so fun being with such creative ladies, and in a beautiful home! I learned so much from all of them, and can’t wait to bring you some more content we created while we were together!
