I found these fun white placemats at Dollar Tree. I purchased six of them to go on my dining room table.

I found these fun white placemats at Dollar Tree. I purchased six of them to go on my dining room table.

I got my paintbrush really coated with black paint then took the paintbrush and made a nice little circular motion onto the placemat to make an eye.

I started with Apple Barrel, multi-surface, acrylic paint in the color black. I also used this folk art home decor paint brush that was nice and round. This would help me make my snowman face. I put my black paint into a little, tin muffin pan. I got my paintbrush really coated with black paint then took the paintbrush and made a nice little circular motion onto the placemat to make an eye. It took a little practice to get it coated enough. I then made another eye on the other side of the placemat and added little circles on the bottom half of the placemat to make the mouth. I started by kind of marking each one in the place that I wanted and then I worked to fill in all of the circles.

I then used Apple Barrel, and pumpkin orange paint to create the nose

I then used Apple Barrel, and pumpkin orange paint to create the nose. I dipped my flat paint brush into the orange paint and started painting on a carrot nose. I took my time drawing the nose and made sure to get the shape that I was looking for. I then filled it all in and used a smaller brush, dipped in the black paint, and made little lines on the carrot nose to make it look more like a carrot.

I repeated this same process with all the placemats.

I repeated this same process with all the placemats. The circles weren’t perfectly round but I was okay with that. Each carrot nose looked a little different from the others making them all unique. I got a little bit better at how to get the black circles on in an even style, as well as make the carrot noses the shape that I wanted.

You could alternatively use Sharpie markers or a permanent marker to do this project, but I was a little worried that permanent markers tend to bleed. Another idea might be to use fabric and glue or use adhesive fabric to make the same face. I chose this paint as I know that I will want to wash these placemats and this paint will hold up in the wash cycle. once it’s dry I should be able to machine wash it and air dry it. Once I had all six placemats painted I set them out to dry completely.

Once they were dry they were ready to be used. I still have to remove the tags and I will cut those off with the scissors. I’m also trying to decide whether to leave them on the red tablecloth or remove the red tablecloth and let them be on the hardwood. One thing that I absolutely love about these is they can be used for an entire winter season.
