Easy Thrift Store Upcycle (11) add solar light

Another trip to the thrift store and I found this cute terra cotta house that was missing the rest of it. I gave it a little paint and upcycled it to fun decor for my yard that lights up!

Here is the terra cotta house that I found that was clearly missing pieces.

Easy Thrift Store Upcycle Video

I started by painting the sky with black Apple Barrel Multi-Surface paint and let that dry.

blank

I painted the base of the town in Folk Art Color Shift in the color Dragon Flash. It’s an amazing paint that color shifts between 2 colors.

blank

I painted over the top of the black paint with Green, Gold Red Shift – Folk Art Dragonfly Glaze.

blank

This stuff is so incredibly fun to work with – amazing northern lights sky appearance!

blank

I painted the town houses with Folk Art Multi-Surface sterling sliver paint.

blank

To give the houses a little depth, I painted the indents with Delta Creative Ceramcoat in metallic deep silver.

blank

I let that dry completely. You could leave it as is or …

blank

Place an LED or color changing LED light inside.

blank

You can add a regular tealight or candle in it and not only will it glow, but it will add extra heat to your space.

blank

Stick in a solar light through the top or place a color changing globe solar light on top.

So cute and the glaze is amazing. A darling decor item for only a couple dollars and a bit of paint. All because you had vision to see beyond the original appearance. ?

Looks like you found a winner with this lovely terra cotta house! It’s certainly versatile in what you can do with it! You’ve offered us some very creative ideas on how to use it! And they are all awesome! I’ve never heard of the FolkArt color shift paint! Interesting and sounds like fun to use!

Thank you so much Jenny, I’m thrilled with how it turned out and the lighting options. I think in the summer I’l be using the solar light and other artificial sources, but in the winter a candle to add extra warmth to my space 🙂

Thank you so very much April, I’m thrilled that you like how it turned out. Sometimes things just need a little love to find a place in our home again. What is one person’s trash is another person’s treasure 🙂 Love that saying because it’s so true. Thank you for hosting a lovely party.

Thanks so much Nina and I know it’s hard when the item is so specific. Think of the Terra Cotta possibilies – planters, coasters, etc So much fun. See you at the next party.
