With advances in mobile technology in the past decade there are more and more remote workers and most are working (and zooming) from home rather than in traditional offices. Work-life balance has become increasing important and working from home may indeed be the future of work. Since you will be in your home office eight hours a day, why not creat the ideal workplace that you will actually enjoy. Whether you are creating flexible work spaces in different sections of your home or using a designated room as an office you can choose an office design that meets your specific needs. So, it’s time to make sure you have a personal space for you and your work, and there is no reason that it can’t be fun too.

Here are some tips for designing your workspace

COLOR

The best way to have a positive impact on your work area is by integreating different colors You can add vibrant paint or colorful textiles into your workplace design. This will help create an uplifting area that you want to work in, and it will impact your mood! For example, if you prefer working in a warm and cozy environment, reds, yellows, and oranges are your friend. Or, a color palette of beige, warm whites, and green mixed with natural wood feels relaxed and grounded. You don’t even need to paint the whole room; it could just be a wall or even an accent piece!

CHAIRS

Colorful office chairs can create a funky and creative feel to your home office or nook. Physically sitting at a desk can help you get into work mode and a good, comfortable chair is all part of that mentality. A colorful chair can be a fun addition to a modern office, but at the end of the day you will be spending a lot of time there, so why not choose an ergonomic chair. You don’t have to compromise on the office furniture and settle for an expensive, black monstrosity when there are so innovative solutions and new products to choose from

COOL STATIONERY AND DESK ACCESSORIES

Find different ways to repurpose fun pieces and personal items to create your ideal workspace. You can come up with new ideas to create storage for tools and utility items like pens, scissors, paper clips, thumb drives, etc. Get creative by wrapping repurposed tin cans with rope, colorful yarn, or pretty paper. Keep them within reach on your desk, so everything has a home. A rolling cart next to your desk can become a flexible workspace adding storage and an additonal work surface.

ADD SOMETHING GREEN

Never underestimate the power of a well-placed houseplant or other natural elements in your home office. A pretty desk plant will naturally purify the air in your workspace; research shows that indoor plants help make you feel better. Studies have also proven that indoor plants improve concentration and productivity (by up to 15 percent!), reduce stress levels, and boost your mood — making them perfect for not just your home but your workspace, too.

Making careful design choices will help you create an aesthetic that is motivating and energizing. You can choose artwork or create a gallery wall that inspires your best work.
