Here is the original mug rack I found at a thrift store. It was in great shape with just a few scratches.

Here are the materials you’ll need

  • Paint Brush

Start by spraying Krud Kutter onto your piece, and then wiping it with a clean rag. This will remove oils, dirt, debris, sticky residue, etc.

Here are the Instructions

Start by spraying Krud Kutter onto your piece, and then wiping it with a clean rag. This will remove oils, dirt, debris, sticky residue, etc.

I chose Folk Art Color Shift Black Gold acrylic paint for this piece. Using a dry paint brush, I painted on the first coat of paint, let it dry, and then painted on a second coat. You don't always need a second coat, so start with the first, let it dry, and see if it needs a second coat.

Once I was done painting, I let it dry completely. Depending on what you're using a piece for or where it will be located will determine if you need a varnish top coat or not. This piece was going into my office, so I didn't put a top coat on.

The awesome thing about this particular paint is that it shifts colors between black and gold in the light. It's best to see in person, and I tried to capture this in a photo for you to see as best as I could.

I didn't really need a mug rack, so I chose to repurpose this mug rack into an office organizer. It holds my headsets, charging cords, and glasses.

What can I paint with acrylic paint?

You can paint just about anything with acrylic paint, especially if you pick a multi-surface acrylic paint.

What is a good beginner acrylic paint?

I’m a big fan of Folk Art and Apple Barrel acrylic paint.

What should a beginner paint?

It’s good to start with an easy project at first. So small items like a ceramic figure, or small thrift store item.

Do you wet the brush before using acrylic paint?

I do not usually wet my brush before using acrylic paint

Which is better acrylic or oil paint?

I like acrylic paint because it’s water based and way easier to clean up than oil paint.

What is a good acrylic paint brand?

I’m a big fan of Folk Art and Apple Barrel acrylic paint.

How expensive is acrylic paint?

I usually spend a couple dollars per tube of acrylic paint. I love that the brands I buy are usually sold at stores like Walmart, Michaels, Hobby Lobby, and Amazon.
