Fireflies and Cattails

Outdoor

Share it with others!

Growing up in Minnesota I remember the beautiful fireflies and trying to catch them.  I re-purposed an old apple cider jug by adding some cattails and lights  to remind me of the fireflies I grew up with.

You will need:
A jug or glass container of your choice
Cattails (Dollar Tree)
20 strand lights (Dollar Tree)
First put your lights into your jug. I’m using plug in lights but you can use battery operated.
Add your cattails into the jug.

Turn your lights on and you’re done.  Leave it inside or out.

OH my gosh Chas, this brings back so many childhood memories. While living with my grandparents their side yard was full of firefly’s in the summer. It was so much fun to put a few of them in a jar and watch it light up, until they all few away. Those were fun times!

I totally can relate Linda. Growing up in MN there were so many summer nights filled with these magical little creatures. Such childhood fun and I miss seeing them.

I haven’t seen fireflies at our cabin (in Manitoba) for the last couple of years – I miss them. Your creation is a brilliant idea!! 🙂

You are so sweet Kate, thank you. I’m so sad that you haven’t seen them in a couple years, wonder what the change is? Our climate here in Colorado is so dry that we just don’t have them. Once and a great while when we go to the mountains you get lucky enough to see them.

Love these cattails. These are looking so unique and antique. I used to play with fireflies in childhood.

Thank you so much and don’t fireflies bring back so many happy memories? 🙂
