Today we are going to make DIY ghosts for the Halloween season. This is an easy DIY Halloween decoration and as you will see it can be adapted to make several ghost crafts and ghost shapes. This is a great way to decorate your front yard or front porch for a Halloween party or for trick-or-treaters.

Floating Ghost Heads

1. Cut fishing line to hang the ghost

The first things you will need for this project are foam heads for the head of the ghost and some tulle. I’m a big fan of the fishing line, it is essentially invisible and works great if you want to make a hanging ghost.

2. Attach the fishing line to the foam Ghost head

It may be hard to see, but I cut a hefty amount of fishing line. I don’t want to damage my styrofoam ball so I’m going to be using some tape, but if you didn’t want to do that you could use a screw that you reinforce with some glue. I am using white athletic tape because it’ll blend in nicely. I have taken the fishing line and run it along the seam and then place the athletic tape on top and pressed it firmly to reinforce it.

3. Cover the head with tulle, and pull the fishing line through.

This is two yards of tulle that I’ll be using for the next step. You could also use a white sheet. Find the center point of the tulle and lay it over the top of the ghost and fluff it out so you can get underneath it. Find the end of one of the pieces of fishing line and thread it through the tulle so it hangs nicely. Then repeat this on the other side. The last step is to make a little knot with the ends of the fishing line and you are ready to hang your ghost.

Floating Ghost

1. Place an LED light into a pumpkin pail.

For this next Halloween ghost craft, I’ll be using an led light, a round plastic party tablecloth, and a plastic pumpkin. I have placed batteries in the light so you can see that they’re working and now I’m going to place them into the bucket. Keep in mind that you will need access to that down the road.

2. Place a plastic circle table cover over the pumpkin pail

Next, I opened my circle table cover. A circle tablecloth is important because it’s nice and round and the shape is already formed. You could cut zigzags at the bottom if you like.

3. Cut the table cloth and pull the handle through so you can hang the ghost.

If you can remove the handle from the plastic pumpkin easily you could use this to hang your ghost. If it isn’t easily removed you will need to cut it off and use fishing line to hang your ghost. I was able to pull the handle out so I’ll be able to stick it back inside. All I need to do is cut small holes on either side of the tablecloth so you can re-attach the handle.

Skeleton Ghost

1. Cover the skeleton with a dish towel

For this next Halloween project, I will be showing you a creative idea using a flower sack towel and a small skeleton, both from Dollar Tree. You could also use cheesecloth.

2. Cut a small hole in the dish towel and pull the skeleton’s hanging elastic through the hole.

I’m opening up the flower sack dish towel and finding the center. Cut a small hole in the center of the dish towel and thread the elastic from the skeleton through the hole. You can hang the skeleton ghost by the elastic or with fishing line, it all depends on where you’re gonna hang it. My skeleton ghost is now ready to be hung up so let’s go check it out.

Glowing ghost

1. Place a battery-operated tealight into the terrarium

For this next project, you will need a flower sack dish towel, a tea light candle, and a terrarium planter, all from the dollar store

I’m going to place my tea light in the terrarium, and remember you will need access to this at some point. Let’s set this aside and move to the flower stack towel.

2. Cover the hanging terrarium with a dish towel.

3. Cut a small hole in the center of the dish towel and pull the terrarium hanging hoop through the hole.

Open it up and find the center, cut a slit big enough to get the terrarium loop through, and then you’ll be able to just pop it through like that.

4. Add some fishing line to hang the terrarium

Flip it over and you can hang it with some fishing line.

Now let’s hang up all our ghosts. I’m hanging my first ghost right here by my front door. I have hung my skeleton ghost on the tree branch. This next ghost I will hang on my front porch on my solar chandelier. This is just the start of my decorations for Halloween.

As kids come up my walkway they’ll first see my light-up ghost, my skeleton ghost, and my styrofoam head ghost. My lanterns will glow. These are from lights.com you can find the link for those in my description.
