When wintertime comes around, it’s important to make sure your home is prepared for the season. Taking the time to weatherproof and upgrade certain areas of your home will help you stay warm and save money on energy costs in the long run.

Are you wondering about winter home maintenance tips? Here are a few simple things you can start right now to prepare.

Here Are Some Winter Home Maintenance Tips You Can Start Now

1. Deep Clean Your Home:

Cleaning your home before winter is essential in order to prepare it for colder weather. This includes dusting, vacuuming, and washing windows and walls. Start by clearing away dirt and debris from outdoor living spaces such as patios or decks. Next, sweep up fallen leaves, trim any overgrown plants, and pressure wash the surface of these areas if needed.

2. Check Your Heating System

Make sure to inspect or have a professional Duct Cleaning service check your heaters (furnace, boiler, etc.) before the snow flies. It’s important to ensure that all parts are working correctly and safely, so you won’t be left in the cold if something goes wrong during a chilly night.

3. Inspect Your Pipes

Frozen pipes can cause costly damage if they burst due to extreme temperatures. To prepare for this potential issue, examine exposed pipes around your home and make sure they are insulated properly with foam insulation sleeves.

4. Clean Your Gutters

Leaves, twigs, and other debris can clog your gutters, which prevents water from draining away from the foundation of your house. Make sure to clear out any blockages before the snow falls, or you may run into a soggy mess in the springtime.

5. Seal Windows and Doors

Drafts around windows and doors will let heat escape, leading to higher heating bills throughout the season. Use caulk to fill any gaps and weather-stripping tape on door thresholds for an extra layer of protection against cold drafts coming in.

6. Stock up on Supplies

It’s always better to be prepared if bad weather strikes or roads get impassable due to snow. Make sure to stock up on items such as flashlights, batteries, canned food, and warm blankets in case of an emergency.

7. Prepare Your Car

Winter is a tough season for vehicles, so make sure to check the oil and antifreeze levels, as well as the tire treads. If you’re expecting snowfall in your area, it’s a good idea to have a set of winter tires on hand or at least some chains ready to be installed if needed.

8. Prepare Your Outdoor Furniture

Don’t forget about your outdoor furniture too! If possible, store outdoor cushions, tables, and chairs in a dry place so they won’t get damaged by rain or snow during the cold months. It’s also important to cover wooden furniture with waterproof tarps, so it stays protected from moisture throughout the season. By taking care of these items now, you’ll be able to enjoy them in the springtime when warmer weather returns.

Winter Home Maintenance Tips Conclusion

By keeping these simple tips in mind and taking the necessary precautions, you can make sure your home is ready for winter weather this season. With a little bit of extra effort now, you’ll be much better off when temperatures start to drop!

Hello there! Thank you for sharing this article.
When it comes to heating system maintenance, also remember to change air filters. If you don’t change them, your filters will be filthy, which will shorten the lifespan of your system and increase heating expenses. Besides this, dirty air filters can contribute to the deterioration of air quality in your home.
