1. Place coffee grounds in a small bowl

Exfoliating Hand scrub instructions:

1. Place coffee grounds in a small bowl

I placed approximately one tablespoon of coffee grounds in a small bowl. You can adjust this recipe to be more or less. I am using fresh coffee grounds, but you can use used coffee grounds as well.

You can easily amend this recipe to make a big batch if you like. I used organic sugar and you can use white sugar, cane sugar, coarse sugar, regular sugar, or any kind of sugar if you prefer. Use brown sugar to make a brown sugar scrub recipe. If you’d rather use salt scrubs you can substitute sea salt, table salt, or Epsom salt.

2. Add oil

I added one half teaspoon of avocado oil to my coffee grounds.

You can use any other type of oil you like. If you would like to use coconut oil to make a coconut sugar scrub. You’ll need to warm it up so it liquefies first before adding it to the sugar so that it mixes easier.

You can use any kind of oil you like:

  • coconut oil
  • sweet almond oil
  • canola oil
  • extra virgin olive oil
  • vegetable oil
  • jojoba oil
  • grapeseed oil
  • shea butter
  • apricot oil

The oil is the moisturizing ingredient. With this small amount, you won’t have an excess oil feel on your hands or body leaving behind a greasy residue.

3. Add soap

3. Add soap

I added one half teaspoon of castile soap to my bowl. I like castile soap because it is a natural soap and doesn’t have any harsh chemicals. I added a lavender-scented castile soap, but you could use unscented or pick a different scent if you like.

4. Mix the ingredients together

I mixed all of the ingredients together.

you could adjust the texture however you like by adding more or less of any one ingredient.

It will be grainy which is what you want as that will exfoliate the skin. If you have sensitive skin you can stop here. Add drops of essential oils to add a scent. The addition of lavender essential oil can make a lavender sugar scrub, lemon juice or lemon essential oil to make a lemon sugar scrub, vanilla extract, pure citrus juice, or another natural extract to the mix to give it a scent or fragrance. Other items you can add include lemon zest, citrus zest, rose petals, and vitamin E Oil if you like. I like to leave mine natural but you could add food color if you like to your homemade scrubs. It’s really all about personal preference.

5. Place in airtight containers

I placed my mixture in small mason jars or put it in glass jars. You can find these at the store, you might have some at home, and they are a great deal at thrift stores. You can also get containers online on Amazon, at the dollar store, at Walmart, and other stores. You can store this at room temperature which is great and helps with it being easily accessible. This makes a fantastic gift any time of year and for any occasion.

In addition to this working with your hands, it is a great homemade body scrub that you can use on your entire body. I love to leave my sugar body scrub in my shower for easy access or by my sink. Guess what you can use it for facial scrubs too. Are you ready for a spa day? Make this homemade hand scrub and get started.
