Table Runner

This table runner is super easy to make, you can leave the doilies as they are or cut them into snowflake shapes for winter.

Once you have determined if you want a snowflake shape or not, it's time to start putting your table runner together.

I used different sizes for my table runner. I layered the doilies into the shape that I wanted, and I hot glued the edges together.

I started by cutting a slit in a doily.

I made the doily into a cone shape and then I hot glued it into place.

Now you can stop here for mini trees, and place a battery operated tealight under it for some added glow.

For a taller and layered tree, I cut the top off of one doily and slid it onto a battery operated taper candle.

I placed another doily cone on top to make the beak of the tree. One of the best things I like about this tree is that you can turn the battery operated light on an it will glow as well. This can add some amazing ambiance to a dining table, living room, etc and especially during those winter months when I want something fun after all of the holiday decorations are put away.

You could easily use heart shaped doilies for this project as well and simply fold them up and glue.

Are doilies still used?

There are so many different ways to use these for any time of year. You can either dye the doilies or buy them in different colors. There are so kinds of doilies from your traditional round ones to paper heart doilies. You can even find doily cupcake wrappers at grocery stores that can be the perfect way to do some of these crafts when you need smaller shapes.

If you’re creating paper crafts with kids, a great project is to simply place inexpensive paper doilies down and let the kids add craft gems, foam heart stickers, googly eyes, and other items.

What are lace doilies used for?

Doilies are a symbol of elegance. Many people used them to display for food presentation (like cookies), and sometimes they were used like decorative coasters to protect surfaces. There are many types of doilies ranging from material (cotton and polyester) to paper doilies that come in shapes (heart or round doilies). These come in a variety of sizes. Many people crochet them and some still do today.

Where can your purchase doilies?

You can find paper doilies at the dollar store, and discount stores. Their availability depends on the time of year. You can find material doilies at craft fairs and thrift stores.

You can get paper doilies at your local dollar store, and you can find heart-shaped paper doilies there too. A great way to find vintage doilies and fabric doilies at a thrift store, or at a garage sale or estate sales if you’re looking for lace doilies to do some of these fun projects.
