Make these adorable red solo cup lights for your next party. This light strand is inexpensive, easy to make, and will look great on any occasion! Just pick the color solo cup you like.
How do you make Solo Cup lights?
Supplies for red solo cup lights
- Strand of lights
- Solo Cups
- X-Acto Knife or Razor Blade
You’ll be cutting an “X” in the bottom of the cups.
Use your razor or X-Acto knife to cut the bottom of the solo cups in an “x”.
Stick the light through the “x” in the bottom of the cup. The big cups wouldn’t fit as well right next to each other. I opted to buy mini solo cups from Dollar Tree to alternate with the big cups. You could us all mini cups or leave a blank light between the big cups.
You can decide how many cups you want to put on your light strand.
I used a couple of suction cups from Dollar Tree and was able to hang my lights up above my TV.
Plug them in and they’re ready to go!
What can I use instead of a red solo cup?
- Dollar Store sells knock off less expensive cups
- Any plastic cup in any shape can work
- Dixie or paper cups
Why are they called red Solo cups?
The original solo cup was the cone-style cup created by Dixie. It was sold to water bottle companies. So solo being a single person, so a cup for 1 essentially. Later stacking plastic cups were made and they were red and the color helped block the visibility to see what is inside the cup.

One simple idea will create a fantastic football party! So many options, and it’s inexpensive to make these items, many of which you have in your own home.
You’ll Need: A variety of glasses, mason jars, vases, cans, plastic cups… you pick what you want to work with. Athletic tape Scissors Options in this post below…
Take your athletic tape and cut a long strip and several small strips.
Stick this football pattern onto several different jars, vases, cans etc., and use them for…..
Drinks! The best part – use a Sharpie so that everyone can write their name on the tape so they can keep track of their cup. If your pint classes have something printed on them, you can do the tape on the backside. Use what you have, you don’t have to go buy something new.
Hold Utensils! Optional – you could paint your can brown first before putting the tape on.
Serve snacks! The vase is holding pretzels and the mason jar is holding M&M’s. You could serve chips, guac, etc
A Vase! Use an old bottle and put flowers/flags, etc in team’s colors in it.
Lap of Luxury: Crafting Two Budget-Friendly and Effortless Lap Trays for Ultimate Comfort!
These are inexpensive and easy lap trays. Adaptable for many occasions and customization. There are 2 versions from you to pick from. I’m gearing up for the Super Bowl, so mine are customized for that.
For the first version, you’ll need: A 11 x 14 picture frame (Dollar Tree) 2 choppers – or handle of your choice (Dollar Tree) Personalize-able items to decorate (napkins are from Dollar Tree) Either Hot Glue or E6000 Adhesive *Optional – Dry Erase Marker
Open up your frame and personalize your lap tray with whatever you want – customize it per person, birthdays, movie viewing, etc. Since I’m gearing up for the Super Bowl, I decided on football napkins.
I opened up my napkin, placed it inside, and closed the back of the frame.
If you decide you want to use handles, you’ll need to glue them on. I used choppers for my handles that I found at Dollar Tree. You can either glue them on with hot glue which is a little less secure but allows you to open back up the frame if you want to change what’s inside, or you can use E6000 for a more secure and permanent hold.
Glue your choppers onto the back of the frame.
You’re tray is ready and you can use a dry-erase marker to personalize each tray for an event. When you’re done, it wipes right off.
Now onto the second lap tray option…
For this lap try you’ll need: A cookie sheet pan (Dollar Tree) Chalkboard paint of your choice (I used Rust-oleum, Amazon) Paint brush Painters Tape Chalk
I taped the edges of my pan with the painters tape to stop the paint from getting on the edges.
Paint on the chalk board paint and let dry. Follow the directions, mine said to let the paint dry for 3 days.
Pull off the painters tape.
Season the chalkboard paint by using a piece of chalk sideways and coloring the whole surface area. This step is important so that when you write on it the writing erases – if you skip this step your chalk words won’t erase as well.
Erase all the chalk.
Use the chalk to personalize for the event.
One of the things I like best about this tray is it’s great for traveling with kids – bring it in the car and they can use it to eat off, doodle with chalk, play games like tic tac toe or hangman, and they are still magnetic – so bring along those magnets and magnetic alphabet letters for fun!
