How many days till Halloween? With a little dye and paint, I created a fun Halloween Countdown Calendar with items from Dollar Tree. This is a fun project for kids as they prepare their scary costumes for trick-or-treating and countdown to October 31st, Halloween day!!

Did you know fall is my favorite season, and this is one of my favorite holidays for a celebration? (Yes, even more than my birthday) I love the memory of getting to dress up like what you wanted to be when you grow up or your favorite hero (mine was Wonder Woman – and my mom’s hand sewed mine but I never won costume contests for her amazing sewing talent sadly). Do you remember DIY costumes?

I get to light candles, eat pumpkin treats, and watch horror, thriller, and scary movies! It was time to make this fun manual countdown timer for our home to celebrate!

There is no gift giving, okay unless you count candy. You get to be creative and carve jack-o-lanterns. So let’s get your decorations on, and add this fun DIY to your collection for this important date.

How do you do a Halloween countdown?

Materials for your Dollar Tree Halloween Craft

• Large wood pumpkin
• small wood pumpkin
• Folk Art Ultra Dye
• Folk Art Chalkboard Paint
• Paint brush
• Chalk
• Hot glue gun

Instructions for your countdown till Halloween

I found this large pumpkin at the Dollar Store.

1. Paint the large wood pumpkin

I painted the entire thing with Folk Art Ultra Dye in the color Lady Marmalade.

2. Paint the small pumpkin

While that was drying I painted a small wooden pumpkin with Folk Art Chalkboard Paint. The small pumpkins were 5 for $1.

3. Stencil a pumpkin face onto the large pumpkin

I then used my Folk Art Holiday Stencils and some of the same chalkboard paint I stenciled on the face for my Jack O Lantern.

4. Paint the stem of the large pumpkin

I painted the stem with Apple Barrel Burnt Umber paint.

5. Season the chalk paint

I seasoned the small pumpkin by rubbing chalk all over it and then erasing it. This will prevent the numbers from sticking.

6. Use chalk to add numbers for your countdown

I then placed my number on the pumpkin – you could count down or up.

7. Hot glue the little pumpkin to the big pumpkin

I put the twine into the pumpkin that came with the set and hot glued it to the large pumpkin. I hung it up and let the countdown begin!

Now it’s a bummer when it falls during a day of the week that is a week day when everyone has to work or go to school the next day. Guess what?!!! You don’t have to clean up your spider webs next Halloween! You can keep them up as your decorations.
