Upcycle Soap Dispensers

Decor and Decorating

Share it with others!

I bought a couple dollar store soap dispensers and they were kind of plain so I decided to upcycle them with stencils. I also had a couple recycled mason jars that I upcycled into soap dispensers.

Here is one of the dollar store soap dispensers. In order to stencil it, I cleaned it with rubbing alcohol. This would remove all oil, dirt, and debris.

Clean the dispenser

I applied my Folk Art adhesive stencil onto the soap dispenser. Make sure to press firmly so all edges are attached and air bubbles are done.

I used Folk Art Home Decor Chalk Paint in white onto the stencil with my stencil brush. To do this, I loaded the brush with paint, then used a paper plain and tapped the brush on it to off load as much paint as possible. Then I tapped the brush onto the dispenser until the stencil was coated. Make sure to read the back of your paint to make sure it is good for the surface you're painting on.

Peel off your stencil as soon as you have the desired amount of paint. Many of these stencils are reusable, simply clean it and put it back onto it's backing. Let it dry completely. It's important to read the back of your paint for cure times before use. Now onto the second dispenser...

I purchased my kit on Amazon and you can find them here - https://amzn.to/2Rmaziq They are really easy to put together following the directions. Put the straw into the pump, place through the hole on the lid, screw into place. You might need to trim the straw based on the size jar you'll be using.

Here are my 2 dollar store dispensers. I'll be filling them with hand soap and hand sanitizer.

Fill dispensers

Here are my 2 dollar store dispensers. I’ll be filling them with hand soap and hand sanitizer.

For the recycled jars I'm filling one with Castile soap and one with Avocado Oil. These are for my new chemical free skin care regiment after having breast cancer following my doctors advice. Castile Soap is amazing and great for so many things (skin care, house cleaning, laundry...) The avocado oil is a natural moisturizer.

I had no idea that it was possible to turn a mason jar into a dispenser. Very cool!

Enjoyed your post. I water down my soap a bit so that it pumps easiers and lasts longer (started this when kids were young). Since “lockdown” I watered down my Bath &Body Vanilla Shower Gel so that I could enjoy it every time I wash my hands! I also love the foaming pumps which use VERY watered down soap!

Thank you for sharing Kathy, and I’m thrilled you enjoyed the post. You’re right… in some instances we use way more soap than we actually need 🙂
