I started with a plain pair of flip-flops from the dollar store.  You could do this project with any pair of shoes you like.

I purchased a package of adhesive rhinestone stickers.  These pulled off the backing nicely and in one solid row so I didn't have to put them on individually.  I put them along one side of the strap and then repeated it on the other side.

I love how easy it was to decorate these shoes.  I know things like this sell in the store for anywhere from $10 and up.  I did much better than that!

I found these shoes at a thrift store brand new for $1.  I didn't like the leaf decorations but I did like the pom pom.

I used sharp scissors to remove the leaves from both shoes.  I gave the pom a fluff to spread out where the leaves were.

The straps are white. I decided to leave them plain, but I could glue them on a stand of black ribbon to create a black strip down the sides.

3. Give Plain Slippers and Update

I have a friend who is having a baby and I’m not only giving her a baby shower gift but a little gift to pamper herself. I purchased a very simple and inexpensive pair of slippers.

I used some adhesive jewel stickers to add a little something to the slippers.  You could also glue on bows.

I used a marker but you could also use paint or nail polish.  I wanted to replicate a bee's strips, so I started by making small stripe marks with my marker.  Then I colored in the strips to widen them.

  1. I love what you did with all your shoes, Chas. It doesn’t take a lot of effort to transform them, just creativity and you definitely have that. Happy birthday to you!

  2. Youve made some very creative and attractive designs! The difficulty with the source materials is tht the “sticky” type glue they come with does not adhere for very long at all. Sometimes it releases in as little a a few hours! Because the decor is so tiny it is additionally difficult to afix the decor- particularly the jewels – by adding regular glue before placing the jewels on to start with. What other options do you suggest?

    1. I recommend using E6000 or Gorilla glue if you’re having trouble getting the regular adhesive to stay in place. 🙂
