I have this old farmhouse bench I love but it's a little hard to sit on. Using rugs from the Target Dollar Spot, I was able to turn them into pillows or cushions.

I bought 4 rugs from the Target Dollar Spot. I couldn't decide between 2 of the patterns/sayings so I bought both so they could be reversible.

I placed 2 of the rugs together with the right sides facing out.

I hot glued 3 of the 4 sides together.

I folded up a fleece blanket and slid it in for the padding inside.

I used self adhesive hook and loop fastener on the last side. This would allow me to take the cover off and wash it if needed.

You Could alternatively sew the cushions on 3 sides if you like. I did this with the second cushion as I would be making this the back of the bench. I placed ribbon in 2 spots and sewed those into place so that I could tie this cushion onto the top of the bench.

What a neat idea. I would never have thought to use rugs to make pillows. They turned out great and give that bench a nice bit of extra character.

These are so adorable! I would never have thought about making a rug into a cushion. I have a friend who hired someone to make a pillow out of her recently deceased husband’s shirt. It turned out really nice.

Thank you Lisa, and love that your friend had that done. I have a rug someone made out of my grandpa’s old jeans.

These cushions are so easy to make. Great idea for a bench as the heavier fabric will take lots of wear and tear. Beautiful job Chas.
