Moving Organization tips

Create a Game Plan

Before starting the moving process, it’s crucial to understand the big picture, meaning what should be done and who will be involved. Therefore, it would be best to create a comprehensive moving plan well in advance. The first thing you want to do is make sure you have all the packing supplies you need. Here are some things to consider:

  • packing boxes of various shapes and sizes
  • plastic bags or garbage bags
  • packing tape
  • bubble wrap and packing paper
  • permanent marker

Make sure you have all your important papers, like the lease, the contracts, and any guidelines you need to follow for moving. Also, make a thorough moving checklist or to-do list and schedule to follow the tasks you need to do before and during your move.

No matter how detailed your checklist is, things can still get hectic, but that’s fine. Just refer to it regularly throughout the moving process and stay focused on your ultimate goal. Checklists are a great way to put all tasks into one easy-to-find place and prevent you from overlooking any details. Making a checklist is one of the best strategies for staying organized.

Declutter Before You Move

Start your decluttering process early, as it’ll probably take longer than expected. Also, you’ll minimize over tiredness by dividing the work. Deciding which belongings to take and which to let go can be mentally exhausting, especially if you’ve gathered many items over the years. Probably your first thought will be to pack everything and see what you need once you’ve moved.

But we recommend making the hard decisions before the move. By packing less stuff, your unpacking will be less chaotic and more efficient. Also, you should know that most moving companies charge by weight, so if you have trouble deciding what to keep, ask yourself whether the item is worth spending money to move. In this way, you’ll get rid of unwanted items before moving. Then, you can sell the items, donate, or recycle them.

Pack Smartly

After decluttering thoroughly, the next phase is to pack at your own pace. And while packing, make your life easier by labeling everything. Label each moving box on the side rather than on the top. Labeling helps during the packing because you’ll always know what you’ve packed so far. Also, you’ll be happy when unpacking because you’ll be able to place the boxes in the right room.

It is also helpful if you pack by room. Here’s a prop tip, pack a special box of things you’ll need upon arriving and put it in a convenient place that will be easy to find. This way you will have easy access to the things you will need right away. This box should be the last thing you pack and the first to be unpacked. Include items such as:

  • shower curtains
  • bed linen
  • a few essential kitchen utensils and kitchen items
  • toilet paper
  • toiletries
  • change of clothes
  • coffee maker
  • box cutters or scissors

If you have fragile items, be more careful when packing. If you are hiring professional movers make sure they have the proper supplies to pack everything, especially fragile items. Bubble wrap is your friend here!

Prepare Your New Home in Advance

This is also a part of the moving process and crucial since you’ll make your move more organized and easier if you thoroughly prepare your new home. Moving into a clean home is essential, especially if you move in furniture. Clean the floors in advance if you don’t want the dirt to stay there for years. Also, make sure your bathrooms and shower are clean because you’ll probably want to take a shower as soon as you arrive.

Organize insurance and update your address in advance for your new place. Don’t forget to make extra keys. And one of the most important things is to connect your utilities to have a smooth start. In terms of security systems, TV, and internet, research which companies offer the best prices and book installations in advance.
