When we finished our basement we wanted a home bar setup. Here are some of the things we considered while designing the space.
If we have space in our home, it’s not uncommon for the urge to craft a lovely bar table with associated bottles and mixing ingredients to get the better of us. Of course, investing in a nice place to enjoy a little tipple from time to time is good, as it adds a sense of class to the whole occasion, which ironically helps you avoid drinking poor quality products in high quantity and flips that relationship in an opposite sense.
So, crafting a worthwhile home bar can not only help you enjoy and justify your evening nightcap each week, but it can make you celebrate it and moderate your intake more readily. That’s a great place to start, then. In this guide, we’ll discuss what else can be achieved and why that may be appropriate for you.
First, we need to find a nice area of our homes to curate this bar. But remember, it doesn’t have to be hidden in your own home or basement, if you have spare space in a large outside shed, that can be a worthwhile place too. So, let’s get started and consider some advice:
It’s All About Seating
A home bar is of course about the bottles, liqueurs and glasses you use to stock it, but don’t forget about how people will interact with this space. A solid wooden countertop can be a great place to rest on, but only if you afford worthwhile seats such as comfortable padded stools or loungers in the area you wish to serve. Seating in this light can help you whittle away lazy evenings talking to your friends, or watching sports without getting too rowdy.
Displaying Your Bottles & Collection
It can also be quite healthy to display your bottles or collection in a way that shows you have pride in this fixture, that you’re not just investing in this space for an excuse to drink. Back mirror or LED lighting can help you bring something of an ambiance to this space, as can implementing scented candles or incense in the right places. Little fixtures like tinted lamps can also add character to your home environment, while expensive bottles may be placed prominently alongside your engraved glasses – with each element listed and carefully integrated.
Lovely peripherals really do make a difference when crafting your home bar. For instance, copper cups for Moscow mule concoctions can be tremendously wonderful, as they not only look great, but are sturdy and help sustain the perfect cool temperature. Moreover, investing in high-quality bar mats or having custom pads created, as well as installing taps that you can draw draught beer from, or perhaps even purchasing a few mini-fridges to keep your white wine refrigerated, all of this can help in giving you the best and most amazing end result. As you can see, peripherals of this nature can truly help not only craft a bar but aid you in defining it.
With this advice, we hope you can feel empowered to craft that worthwhile home bar as appropriate.
