Let’s talk about some unsightly eyesores that you might want to cover in your home. First up is the cable box. Cable boxes are not always the prettiest so let’s go ahead and talk about ways to cover them up.

There are a few ways you can cover your cable box. Start by measuring to find the size of the cable box. One way is to camouflage it by adding books around it.

You can place a book on top and one below, so it blends in a bit better.

Another idea is to find a book that is approximately the same size as your cable box and remove the jacket.

You can place the dust cover around the cable box.

You can leave it like that or stack other books with it.

Can I hide my cable box and still use a remote?

An important thing to consider is the type of cable box you want to cover. The first is what kind of remote control you have. If you have a Bluetooth remote or an RF remote you can cover the cable box with a book jacket without any problem. If you have an infrared or an IR remote you need a direct line of sight from the remote to the receiver so you can’t block them with anything. In this case, you will need to stack books around the cable box, but you won’t be able to cover them with a book jacket. In addition, you should never try to cover a cable box with metal. This will block the receiver and you won’t have a very good signal and your remote won’t work very well so make sure to avoid metal.

If you do have a Bluetooth or RF remote, you can also put your cable box in a basket, and the cords can come out the back of the basket and connect to the power outlet and TV. A hole is also critical as it will allow for airflow necessary to keep the cable box cool. This is a super simple solution and inexpensive as well. It also has easy access so if you want to put your Blu-ray player inside you can get to it easily.

When it comes to the tv wires on the back of your TV, if you have an entertainment center it might hide those automatically. If you don’t, then one of the easy ways you might be interested in a cable organizer box. This can also hide your surge protector, extension cord, electrical cords, and many of your tv cords too. They also make cord covers if you have a wall-mounted TV, it helps to use zip ties to keep all of the cords together and then put them in the cover.

Other ideas to hide your cable box, DVD player, and other best cable management solutions (power cord, HDMI cable or HDMI cords)

Use command strips or command hooks behind the entertainment center, along the fireplace wall or mantle in the living room, on the back of the TV, back of your furniture, etc to hide those cords.
Use cable ties
Use a wire raceway
Use a stack of books to camouflage it
Buy an IR Repeater so you can hide things and your remote will still work.

A decorative box or a cable management box well placed can also hold manuals and remote instructions keeping them handy in case you need them again. It can also hold spare items like an extra HDMI cord in case it goes bad (which we have had happen), new power strip cable, etc.
