Upcycled Dollar Store Owls

Fall

Share it with others!

I have been wanting some silver owls for my home, but some places sell those them for tons of money!!! I ran across these owl salt and pepper shakers at Dollar Tree (love that place) and knew with a little spray paint I could upcycle them to those expensive ones I wanted for a lot less money.

Here is the picture of one of the original owls.

I used Krylon Looking Glass spray paint that I had on hand. You could use a metallic silver paint of your choice. There are tons to pick from – spray paints as well as metallic acrylic paints that you can hand paint on or dip paint.

I gave the owls a few coats of paint, letting them dry between coats. If you use the Krylon Looking Glass paint you’ll notice that it goes on cloudy but don’t worry as it brightens as it dries.  I also recommend wearing gloves as this paint can be messy.

This is what it looked like when they were drying.

I love how these little owls turned out and for just over $1!

I just discovered this mirror shine paint too. Love it!
The owls are so 1970’s before you spray paint them.

Thank you and I agree. My daughter loved them the way they were so I felt a little bad afterward, but I do love the way they look now so much more.

Great upcycle! I think they’re adorable. I’m glad that you mentioned that the paint is cloudy and clears up as it dries. I think I would freak out if it was supposed to be clear and came out of the can so cloudy. I appreciation the clarification.

I’ve never really seen the small owls but will certainly look for them. You have an imaginative mind and helps a lot of DIY people.
I hope that you and your mother be of good health.
