Video Transcript: Dollar Tree Holiday Shopping and DIYs

Welcome to Chas’ Crazy Creations, another trip to Dollar Tree to show you the latest finds and some DIYs. Here’s an easy DIY that you can do with bows and can be used for any holiday or season.

You can decide whether you want to use a variety of colors or a specific few.

DIY Bow Wreath

Grab the bows, your hot glue gun, and a wreath form. Glue the bows to the wreath form, covering it up so you can’t see the wreath form anymore. You now have a lovely bow wreath that can be used for birthdays or any occasion. If you like these DIYs, you might be interested in my new DIY books—find all the details in the description below. Hang Santa on your refrigerator, place all of the cotton balls on the refrigerator as well until it's time to put them on Santa.

Christmas Countdown Calendar DIY

As I moved through the store, I found these little countdown to Christmas calendars. They were super cute, and I know when my kids were younger, they would have loved to have one of these. Want to make your own countdown?

Start by spray painting a dollar store pizza pan. Cut out a Santa face with construction paper and Mod Podge it onto the pizza pan. Add some magnets to the back of some cotton balls, add a Santa hat and a ribbon to hang it from. You could stop here, or add a cotton ball every single day until Christmas day to create an advent calendar. You can find the tutorial at DIY Kids Advent Calendar

Holiday Decorations and DIY Ideas

They have tons of tinsel garland that you can wrap around wire wreath forms to make your own wreath. The colors this year are quite lovely. You can make your own candy cane and do many fun DIYs with this stuff. The tinsel decor can be hung inside, outside, on your door—wherever you’d like.

I placed my pavers into the grass forming a walkway to my front door. I placed the candy and lollipop decorations on either side of the walkway. I staked skewers into the ground and added the candy canes to each one, all along the walkway. You might remember these cones that I spray painted for some holiday games, now I'm placing them along my walkway for my Candyland.

You can also create a Candy Land Christmas by grabbing some of their candy pieces. They had candy canes, gingerbread men, and even battery-operated candy canes that you can stick into the ground. Easily create decorations or DIY it yourself with a few dollar store things. Grab some clear bowls and cellophane, glue the bowls together, and wrap in cellophane to create candy pieces.

You can even grab a pool noodle, wrap it with athletic tape, and use some fish line to create a candy cane. Use the same bowls by gluing them together, wrapping a pool noodle, sticking it on a broom handle, and gluing these bowls to the top. Wrap it in cellophane, and you have lollipops. I have videos for these on my YouTube channel and tutorials on my website.

You can create an easy Candy Land Christmas with lots of cute signs. You can either use them as is or upcycle them with some extra decor from the dollar store. One thing I like to do is coat them with outdoor Mod Podge so I can hang them up outside in the elements. These little Christmas trees are great. My kids loved having them in their room, and they’re perfect for small spaces. You can spruce up the green ones by grabbing these little twist ties. They’re great to hold your garland to your railings as well. Here’s another fun DIY: shape the tie into a circle, take some Dollar Store ribbon, glue it to the tie, add a bow, and hang these on your kitchen cabinets.

Gift Basket Ideas

Grab a Dollar Tree basket and add:

  • A few Christmas books by some famous authors
  • A plain white mug (I cleaned mine and used a permanent marker to draw two eyes, a mouth, and a carrot nose to create a snowman mug)
  • Fuzzy socks
  • Hot chocolate (I chose Junior Mints flavor)
  • A clicky lighter
  • Candles

Ornaments and Decorations

Dollar Tree always has tons of ornaments you can use to embellish other things or use as is. They have lots of options for small trees, including smaller ornaments, tree skirts, and little garland. The clear ornaments are back, and you can do so many DIYs with these.

I drew a snowman face on one of the bulbs.

Turn the white ones into snowmen, and use the clear ones to make find-it balls. Add a variety of fun things into the bulb, then add a bunch of rice. Hot glue the top closed, and kids can twist and turn it to find all the things inside the bulb. It’s a fun game that can be used all year round.

They have a variety of other shapes and sizes. I’ve added photos to the inside of these and created little scenes. Lots of possibilities with these clear bulbs. They even include their own fillers, so if you don’t know what to put in, grab one of these and create a filler of your own. You can even add some water to make it a water globe.

More Holiday Decor

The Christmas Villages are back. I missed the ceramic ones, but they’ve added lights, which is super cool. They have tons of accessories from little people to street lamps to make your village nice and fun.

They have tons of stocking and Santa hat options. I like to wrap gifts in these too—they make a great, reusable bag that can be used again and again. These little tins are super cute. If you’re a baker or need things to pack your gifts, Dollar Tree has tons of options from larger to smaller containers that can be used year-round or all season long.
