Are you ready to create a nursery? Here are 8 tips and tricks for transforming that small bedroom into something special for your new baby.

Create a Nursery

Get a Smaller Crib

If you really want a traditional baby’s crib but don’t want to worry about all of the traditional bulk, then one thing that you can do is opt for a smaller crib. You can easily swap your dream crib for a mini version. The great thing about mini cribs is that they look and feel like the real thing, but they have a very scaled-down frame. You can also consider a convertible crib which have a ton of flexible features making them perfect for a small baby’s room. A lot of the models range between the $200 and $400 mark, so you know that you won’t have to worry about this at all.

Skip out on the Changing Table

A newborn baby goes to the bathroom, a lot, but at the same time, this shouldn’t mean that you have to sacrifice your rocking chair or nursing space. If you want a better option, why not skip out on the traditional changing table and opt for a space-saving alternative? One of the easiest ways to do this is to opt for a crib-top changing table, rather than a separate piece of furniture. These are very portable trays, and they slide across the top of your crib. They are also secured by rails which help to support the baby as they are being changed. This is a great way to optimize your space and when you are done changing, you can then easily slide everything under the crib.

Reclaim Space you’re Not Using

If you have a very small baby’s nursery then you will probably know that every inch counts. If you have a lot of hidden pockets of space and you just don’t know what you should be doing with it, then why not turn it into a shelving area or even small storage units that fit with your overall design? You would be surprised at how much space you can easily create when you simply think outside the box. If you want to plan a nursery design layout, you can find some nursery ideas for boys right here.

Get Creative

Shelving is a real game-changer if you are working with a very small space. There are also a lot of ways that you can go about it too. Remember just because you are working with a small nursery space doesn’t mean that you cannot incorporate shelving ideas that could be helpful for you in the future. There are lots of options that could complement the layout of the room and the nursery theme. For example you could create a shelving unit that looks like a tree, so it serves as decor as well as a place for you to store all of your items.

Hooks

Wall hooks are always a good option, and they remain the best way for you to make the most out of your vertical space and give you easy access to the things you need. If you want to maximize your storage space you can easily hang some larger canvas bags from the hooks so you can fill them with toys and plush animals. You can even use them to store socks or clothing items that may need to be washed. Things like this can work in your favor and you would be surprised at how much of a difference it could make to your home.

Book Ledges

If you want to make the most of your entire space consider using the area behind the bedroom door. If you have at least 3 inches of space behind the bedroom door, then, believe it or not, that is the perfect place to create a library for your child without having to buy additional nursery furniture. You can read them their favorite story books before putting them to bed. The great thing about book ledges is that they can easily hold dozens of books and they do not take up much space at all when you compare them to a normal bookshelf. Bookshelves like this are very inexpensive and they are super easy to put up as well, so you don’t have to worry about a thing there.

Lighting

Don’t choose a floor lamp if you want soft lighting. If you use a floor lamp, then this will take up a lot of space. You need to try a wall-mounted sconce if possible as this will help you to free up a lot of space. Having warm lighting helps create a comfortable place for rocking your little one to sleep and it will also soothe them.

Use Your Closet Door

If you are somewhat averse to removing the closet door so you can gain more space, then it’s a good idea to put the door itself to good use. You may have storage options within your closet, and this is great, but inside the door is a great place to add extra storage. Mounting some sort of storage on the inside of the door can serve many different functions. Try mounting a peg board so you can use some hooks to hang your items and keep everything you need close by. Just try not to use actual shelves here because if you do, then you may find that the items fall off whenever the door is opened, and this is the last thing that you want with a newborn.

You might find extra storage by using a shoe organizer in creative ways in a small space.
