Are you ready to create a nursery? Here are 8 tips and tricks for transforming that small bedroom into something special for your new baby.
If you want to transform your spare bedroom into a nursery, then you will know what an exciting concept this can be. At the same time though, if your bedroom is very small, then you may worry about how much space you have, especially when you think about how many items a newborn baby needs. If you want to do something about this or if you want to make sure that you make the most out of the space you have, then this guide will help you to find out everything you need to know.
Create a Nursery
Get a Smaller Crib
If you really want a traditional crib but don’t want to worry about all of the traditional bulk, then one thing that you can do is opt for a smaller crib. You can easily swap your main idea out for a mini version too if you want. The great thing about mini cribs is that they look and feel like the real thing, but they have a very scaled-down frame. They are also known for having a ton of flexible features which makes them very much suited to smaller nursery spaces. A lot of the models range between the $200 and $400 mark, so you know that you won’t have to worry about this at all.
Skip out on the Changing Table
Babies go to the bathroom, a lot, but at the same time, this shouldn’t mean that you have to sacrifice your nursing space. If you want a better option, then why not skip out on the traditional changing table and then opt for a space-saving alternative? Believe it or not, in this day and age, you can easily find a crib-top changing table. These are very portable trays, and they slide across the top of your crib. They are also secured by rails which help to support the baby as they are being changed. When you are done changing, you can then easily slide everything under the crib, so you don’t have to worry about a thing there.
Reclaim Space you’re Not Using
If you have a very small nursery, then you will probably know that every inch counts. If you have a lot of hidden pockets of space and you just don’t know what you should be doing with it, then why not turn it into a shelving area or even a storage option? You would be surprised at how much space you can easily create when you simply think outside the box. If you want to plan the layout of your nursery, then you can find some nursery ideas for boys right here.
Shelving is a real game-changer if you are working with a very small space. There are also a lot of ways that you can go about it too. Remember just because you are working with a small nursery space, that doesn’t mean that you cannot incorporate shelving ideas that could be helpful for you in the future. There are lots of options here, such as having a shelving unit that looks like a tree, so it serves as decor as well as a place for you to store all of your items.
Wall hooks are always a good option, and they remain the best way for you to make the most out of your vertical space. If you want to maximize the amount of storage that you have, then you can easily hang some larger canvas bags from the hooks so you can fill them with toys and plush animals. You can even use them to store socks or clothing items that may need to be washed. Things like this can work in your favor and you would be surprised at how much of a difference it could make to your home.
If you have at least 3 inches of space right behind the bedroom door, then, believe it or not, you have room for a library for your child. You can then read them their favorite story books. The great thing about book ledges is that they are capable of holding dozens of books and they do not take up much space at all when you compare them to a normal bookshelf. Bookshelves like this are very inexpensive and they are super easy to put up as well, so you don’t have to worry about a thing there.
Don’t choose a floor lamp if you want soft lighting. If you use a floor lamp, then this will take up a lot of space. You need to try and opt for a wall-mounted sconce if possible as this will help you to free up a lot of space. Having a very small amount of light will come in very useful as it will help you when rocking your little one to sleep and it will also soothe them.
Use Your Closet Door
If you are somewhat averse to removing the closet door so you can gain more space, then at least try and put it to good use if you can. You may have storage options within your closet, and this is great, but if you mount some shelves on the inside of the door, then this will help you to hold a couple of extra items. Try and mount a peg board so you can use some hooks to hang your items and so that you can also keep everything you need close by. Just try not to use actual shelves here because if you do, then you may find that the items fall off whenever the door is opened, and this is the last thing that you want with a newborn.
You might find extra storage by using a shoe organizer in creative ways in a small space.
Create a nursery conclusion
Of course, working with a small space is never easy, but if you make the right decisions, then you will soon find that it is easier than ever for you to maximize your space. You also don’t have to worry about clutter, as with the right storage solutions you always have somewhere to put your stuff.
