How to Easily Paint Faux Wood Grain

Hi! I'm Chas and I love simple DIYs to make inexpensive items look special and more expensive.

Sand Out Rough Spots

It is important to smooth out the rough spots before you start painting

3

Clean Your Piece

Once I’m done sanding I will clean the stool with Krud Kutter.

4

Begin  Painting

The first color paint I’m going to be using is Folk Art Home Decor Chalk Paint in the color Kessel. I like chalk paint because it is self leveling.

5

Mix &  Apply Glaze

I mixed my second color paint which is Folk Art Home Decor Chalk Paint in the color with Folk Art Glazing Medium with Folk Art Home Decor Chalk Paint in the color Partisian Gray. I mixed a 1:1 ratio.

You start with the tool at the top and then you rock it back and forth as you move along. Wipe off some of the excess glaze. Don't push too hard so it looks as natural as possible.

Use Your Wood Grain Tool

If for some reason you don’t like the way something looks you can easily just add some glaze to that spot and start over.
