How To Deep Clean Your Bathroom

Let’s Start with the Sinks & Bathroom Counter

Sprinkle with baking soda, scrub it clean, and rinse.

Sprinkle the bathroom sink with baking soda, scrub it clean, and rinse. (This will also work for the kitchen sink).

Baking soda is a base that cuts through germs, grease & dirt. It is a great all purpose cleaner.

Make a sink of dish soap (like Castile or Dawn) and hot water. Use a clean and new wash cloth, dip in the clean soapy water, and wipe off all our counters and table. The key to streak free counters is the clean wash cloth with the clean soapy water - works every time! This is safe for granite counters.

Make a sink of dish soap (like Castile or Dawn) and hot water (use rubber gloves so you can really use nice, hot water). Use a clean cloth, dip it in the clean soapy water, and wipe off all the counters. Don’t forget the faucet handles. The key to streak free counters is the clean rag and the soapy clean water, works every time! This is also safe for granite countertops.

Spray your back splash with the vinegar and wipe it down with a clean wash cloth (it's important that it is clean or you will get streaks).

Another option (not safe for granite) – Pour vinegar in a spray bottle. You can dilute it if you want, but you don’t need to. White vinegar is a natural cleaner. The acidity of the vinegar remove the grease and germs thereby disinfecting your back splash. Spray your back splash with the vinegar and wipe it down with a clean wash cloth (it’s important that it is clean or you will get streaks).

Showers & Tubs

I sprinkle the base of my shower with baking soda.

Sprinkle baking soda on the floor of your shower.

Using a damp sponge, scrub lightly, and then rinse completely

I spray it on my shower tile and glass. Then I use the Clorox extendable tub and tile scrubber to clean my glass and tile without bending over.

To remove soap scum and hard water stains ,spray the glass doors of your shower and the ceramic tile shower walls with vinegar and scrub with a sponge.

Spray your tile and grout lines and scrub. Rinse completely. Vinegar is a great glass cleaner.

Don’t forget your shower head. We all know the shower head can have a lot of build-up over time. You can use white vinegar to clean your shower head. Simply remove the shower head and let it soak in a bowl of vinegar to remove the mineral deposits.

You can use the same technique to clean your bathtub and surrounding tile.

Spray vinegar on your fiberglass tub and and tub you can’t use abrasive cleaners on.

Toilets

Spray rubbing alcohol onto your toilet and wipe it up with a paper towel. It'll clean and disinfect your toilet. You can also use it to scrub out the bowl too.

Spray the outside of the toilet with vinegar and … (if you want to see how to clean your toilet from top to bottom with hydrogen peroxide click here)

wipe with paper towels you can dispose of.

In place of toilet bow cleaner spray the inside the toilet bowl and give it a good scrub with a toilet brush or scrub brush.

Scrub your toilet and flush.Want to see my post on How To Clean Your Toilet From Top To Bottom? https://chascrazycreations.com/how-to-clean-your-toilet-from-top-to-bottom/

  1. Oh my, this is exactly what I’m doing except that my sprayer on my spray bottle stopped working so until I get another I’m putting a little on my cloth. I also soaked orange peels in some vinegar (I keep it in the fridge while I wait for the vinegar to take on the orange scent.) It’s amazing what baking soda & vinegar can do. High Five!

  2. Thank you Linda, I love the added orange – I’ll have to give that a try. Do you use paper towels or clothes you can wash?

  3. I have been using Baking soda and white vinegar for years. I buy Baking soda by the kilo as it works out a lot cheaper. Also good for slow running sinks and basins. I am a bit heavy handed with the soda, but then I pour vinegar on it, leave it overnight, and flush it away with a kettle of boiling water in the morning. Problem solved and clean smelling again.

    1. Thank you Maureen and thanks for sharing all your tips 🙂

  4. Love it! Now, if only I could find someone to clean it for me – just kidding! Natural products are always the best. Thanks for sharing!

    1. That was awesome Leanne – thank you for the giggle. Me too! I’d love to have someone do it for me. 😉

  5. Great tutorial! Cleaning really can be very simple. I find that baking soda works better for scrubbing if I add a little dish detergent–but I don’t bother mixing it into a paste anymore, now that I’ve found it works just fine to pick up some of each on my cloth.

For cleaning the toilet, I’ve been using old socks or other rags that I can throw away. They’re free!

Here’s my guide to green cleaning. I do use a couple of bottled products, but it’s mainly baking soda, vinegar, and peroxide!

  6. Chas, I love cleaning with baking soda and vinegar and am so happy to see bloggers like you getting the word out. I and a lot of other people are very sensitive to chemicals and their fragrances, so the more people who get on board with this, the healthier we’ll all be!

    1. Thank you Jean, I completely understand where you are coming from. I know some have used this for so many years, and that is why we share it with those who haven’t learned it yet 🙂

  7. I do a few of these already and some are new ideas – so big thanks for them!
Another good tip for your shower screen is to get a squeegee so once you have made it super clean with your vinegar mix you can keep it much cleaner with a quick wizz with the squeegee after each use to save having to clean it so often.

    1. Thank you Julie, and thank you so very much for that tip 🙂

  10. Also, one question since I forgot to ask in my earlier comment…do you think vinegar will work on polished marble? I wouldn’t worry if it was honed but wondering if it would be ok on marble with a sheen?
    Thanks…
    Blessings,
    Cindy

I’ve been cleaning homes with all natural products for a few years. One thing I have found is for yellowing of fiberglass sinks and tubs is hydrogen peroxide. I mix half hydrogen peroxide and half water. Spray completely and let set for 15 minutes then spray off with water. Some I have had to repeat several times. The home owners are always amazed at restoration.

    1. Thank you so much Rhonda for sharing that tip!

  13. Good tips. We live on the water and have to be very careful what goes into it. That’s because we draw drinking and cooking water from the lake below us. – Margy

    1. Thank you Margy and thanks for sharing. It’s great to think of where those chemicals might be going after we use them.
